Campaign for a Safe and Healthy California Announces Major Endorsement from NRDC Action Fund
SACRAMENTO – Today the Campaign for a Safe and Healthy California (CSHC) is proud to announce receiving an endorsement from the NRDC Action Fund, a sister organization to NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council). The NRDC Action Fund works to build public and political support for protecting the planet's wildlife and wild places, and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities.
The Campaign for a Safe and Healthy California is working to hold Big Oil accountable by running a campaign to KEEP THE LAW (SB 1137) that would make existing oil and gas wells safer by meeting tighter health and environmental requirements within 3,200 feet of neighborhoods, schools, daycare centers and healthcare facilities, and keeping new wells from being built in these areas. To try and overturn this public safety law, oil companies have placed a deceptive measure on the November 2024 ballot.
“Millions of Californians live near polluting oil wells that put their health and well-being at risk. A recently passed state law establishes a health and safety buffer zone to protect communities from neighborhood drilling.” said Jon Colmenares of the NRDC Action Fund. “Everyone should have access to clean air and water, so the NRDC Action Fund will fight to make sure voters know how important it is to KEEP THE LAW in November.”
“KEEP THE LAW” Campaign endorsers include public health groups, community and faith organizations, and environmental justice leaders from across California, working to hold oil companies accountable for creating a public health crisis, especially for communities of color.
